WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a Safety Certificate the same as a Roadworthy Certificate (RWC)?
Yes, they are exactly the same thing. In Queensland, the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) officially changed the name from “Roadworthy Certificate” to “Safety Certificate” in 1999. However, most people and mechanics still use the terms interchangeably.
When do I legally need to get a Safety Certificate?
You legally require a QLD Safety Certificate when:
- Selling or disposing of a registered light vehicle.
- Transferring registration to a new owner, a family member, or a business.
- Registering an unregistered vehicle.
- Transferring interstate registration over to Queensland.
What mobile services do you provide besides Safety Certificates?
We are a full-service mobile mechanics and tyre team. Our on-the-road services include:
- Mobile Car, trailer, motorbike, truck Servicing & Repairs: General maintenance and fixed-price logbook servicing that keeps your new vehicle warranty intact.
- Mobile Tyre Replacement & Fitting: Supplying, fitting, and repairing tyres for cars, Light Trucks, caravans, and trailers at your home or workplace.
- Pre-Purchase Inspections: A comprehensive mechanical and physical assessment of a used vehicle before you buy it. Including electronic and photographic report
- Mechanical Repairs: On-site fixes for brake pads, batteries, suspension issues, alternator and starter motor replacements, Vehicle Scans and diagnosis as well as Oil and fluid leaks.
- Air Condition Re-Gas: Keeping your climate control performing at its best.
What locations do your mobile inspection and mechanical teams cover?
We offer completely mobile inspection, mechanical, and tyre services right across South East Queensland. Our active service areas include:
- Gold Coast (and surrounding coastal/hinterland suburbs)
- Brisbane (Greater Brisbane, Northside, and Southside)
- Sunshine Coast (and surrounding regions)
- Ipswich (We also have a fully equipped mechanical workshop based in Ormeau if you prefer to bring your vehicle to us).
How long is a Safety Certificate valid for?
The validity depends on who is selling the vehicle:
- Private Sellers: Valid for 2 months or 2,000 km (whichever comes first) from the date of issue.
- Licensed Motor Dealers: Valid for 3 months or 1,000 km (whichever comes first).
Note: A safety certificate can only be used for one single transfer of registration.
What types of vehicles can you inspect and service?
We are fully qualified, licensed, and TMR-approved to inspect, service, and fit tyres for an extensive range of vehicles, including:
- Cars, Utes, 4WDs, and SUVs
- Motorcycles and Motorbikes
- Light to Heavy Trucks (up to 16,000 kg / 16 tonne)
- Caravans, camper trailers, and horse floats (with an ATM between 750kg and 4,500kg)
- Motorhomes
- Uber, rideshare, and light passenger vehicles requiring a Certificate of Inspection (COI)
Can you issue a Safety Certificate if my car is unregistered?
Yes, absolutely! We can conduct mobile safety inspections on unregistered vehicles across Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, and Ipswich. If the vehicle passes, we will issue an electronic certificate which you can use to register the vehicle at TMR. (Tip: You can legally drive an unregistered vehicle directly to our workshop in Ormeau via the most direct route, provided you have taken out Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance first).
How long does a mobile safety inspection take?
A standard safety certificate inspection generally takes between 40 to 50 minutes. Because we are completely mobile, our inspector comes straight to your home or workplace. Once completed, our examiner uploads the results electronically, and you will receive a digital copy of your certificate via email or SMS shortly after.
What happens if my vehicle fails the inspection?
Don’t stress. If your vehicle doesn’t pass the initial inspection, you will receive a “failed” report detailing the specific items that need rectification. Under TMR regulations, you have 14 days to get the issues fixed and book a re-inspection. If the 14-day window passes, a completely new full inspection must be conducted.
If my vehicle requires repairs to pass, can your mobile team fix it?
Yes, this is the benefit of using our team. Because we are qualified mobile mechanics and tyre specialists, we don’t just tell you what’s wrong—the same team can fix it. For smaller items like replacing a light bulb or wiper blades, we can often repair it on the spot. For larger mechanical issues, worn brake pads, or tyre replacements, we will provide an upfront quote and complete the repairs quickly to get your vehicle passed well within your 14-day window.
